GYMNASTICS is a generic term covering several different types of disciplines.
WOMEN'S ARTISTIC GYMNASTICS
Female gymnasts performing routines on four different types of apparatus:
MEN'S ARTISTIC GYMNASTICS
Male gymnasts performing routines on six different types of apparatus:
ACROBATIC GYMNASTICS
Male and Female performing on Floor, in Pairs, Trios or Fours. Routines involve synchronised movements and balances. Groups can be single sex or mixed.
A separate section of Acrobatic Gymnastics is TUMBLING, involving a series of tumble movements along a special tumble run.
RHYTHMIC GYMNASTICS
Female only routines on floor using clubs, ribbons, rope, balls or hoops.
Can be singly or in groups
AEROBIC GYMNASTICS
Both Male and Female : Aerobic routines on floor
Can be singly or in pairs or groups
TEAMGYM GYMNASTICS
Teams of Male or Female or Mixed. Involves Group Floor exercise and a team tumbling and a team vaulting over very high table.
GYMNASTICS FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES
Both Male and Female : involves all the above types of gymnastics.
GENERAL GYMNASTICS
Basic "grass roots" Gymnastics incorporating all of the different disciplines. Introductory gymnastics for both male and female aged 5 years - 105 years. Approximately 10% of general gymnasts progress into artistic as part of the BG Talent Identification programme. The sky is their limit, ultimately competing for their region or nation. Also includes Display Gymnastics.
PRE-SCHOOL GYMNASTICS
Gymnastic Education and Movement for children up to about the age of 5 years, giving this age group an understanding of basic gymnastics shape and rhythm in a musical and fun manner.
BABYGYM - A specially designed class for Carer and Baby from approx. 8 weeks until crawling.
TRAMPOLINE GYMNASTICS
All aspects of gymnastics rebound moves, twists, somersaults - forwards, backwards & twisting using a trampoline.
